Thank you for your wonderful comment)) Let them continue to cast your country in a negative light yes, as it serves to fuel the confirmation bias of those who will not change their minds anyway. For those who to challenge the narrative, come to beautiful Russia and see for yourself))

There are many such writers and YouTubers who try to represent their experiences in Russia accurately. They are routinely accused of propaganda, as myself have been by some. Apparently it is just too difficult for some minds to accept that perhaps these people are just relaying their authentic experience.

Check out @AussieComradeInRussia, @AussieSpy, and @TravellingwithRussell on YouTube for Australians in Russia who genuinely love being here.

Hello from Siberia! I live in Novosibirsk.

It's hot in summer and cold in winter. but this can be easily solved with warm clothes😉

Excellent writing style, smart and ironic. I read it with pleasure. Thank you very much. You are close to us mentally and culturally. These are the kind of migrants I would like to see in my country, and not these wild hordes of guest workers from Central Asia. I would like to have such a neighbor.

Hi mate!

A Russian who moved to Sydney here👋🏻

First of all, I love your writing style! And I entirely agree that Russia isn’t as awful as depicted in some news. But it works both ways: if you watch Russian federal tv, you will hear all sorts of horrors about the western countries which are also not all true. My point is: the way you describe things, Australia is this awful place where it’s impossible to live, while Russia is heaven on earth. Every country has its pros and cons and we just choose one which cons we are ready to accept. Personally, I found Australia way better to live than Russia, but it doesn’t mean Russia is terrible to live in for everyone else😊

Hi Anna)) It’s really great to hear that you moved to Australia and love it! There are so many nice things about Australia, and some I miss quite a lot—mostly the nature, the wildlife, and of course the ocean.

I of course wish you all the best because it’s so lovely when someone finds their place in the world.

My posts are appearing in somewhat of a chronological order, including my range of emotions throughout my experience here. In future posts you will see that I absolutely don’t hate Australia and aren’t here to just denigrate my home country.

Thanks so much for your thought provoking and honest comment)) I hope everything is going great for you there in the great southern land. Please tell me you don't like vegemite though (it's gross!) 😆 🦘🌴😎

Hey there!

Oh no, I can't understand how anyone can seriously like vegemite - my theory is that no one really likes it and you Aussies use it to make fun of foreigners and see their reaction. That's the only logical explanation for me!

I'm really curious about your journey and will follow your future posts :)

Don't you find the weather depressing btw? It was one of my main problems living in Moscow, around 6 months of dull grey skies, it had both physiological and mental impact on me. How does it feel after living in a sunnier (and warmer) place your whole life?

This is mainly for readers who came from Pikabu.

In the interests of transparency, I am letting readers know I made one edit to this article.

I have changed the line about the officers at the Australian airport carrying machine guns to rifles.

I'm an Australian, we have a strong anti-gun stance as a country, so naturally, I'm not a weapons expert in any sense of the word. I'm also happy to admit writing mistakes and fix them.

For everyone who called this line hyperbole or "dramatic effect" - the information is freely available on the AFP website.

As with all the information in this piece, it's all quite easy to verify, just Google it.

G'day mate!

Many years ago we took an extended vacation. Took a break from balmy Sydney and went to Russia to celebrate New Year with family and friends.

Once back, friend of mine (true blue Aussie from Queensland) asked, how cold it was up there. I must say winter was very snowy and cold in St. Petersburg that year. It stayed below -25 degrees pretty much all the time we were there.

His feedback was "I would have died right in the airport".

I shall send him this link. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts!
